Booking Your Cruise:

How do I pick the perfect cruise line?

Picking a cruise line? There’s a lot to think about, but don’t worry—it’s easier than it sounds! Start by checking out the cruise line’s reputation and how experienced they are. Take a look at their itineraries and destinations to see if they match your vibe. Think about what kind of experience you’re after—onboard perks, dining options, entertainment, and even the overall feel of the ship all play a role. Keep in mind who the cruise is geared toward—some are perfect for families, while others are all about luxury or adventure. And of course, don’t forget to compare prices, deals, and any extra fees to make sure you’re getting the most bang for your buck! Another important factor to consider is the size of the ship. Larger ships often come with more amenities, like water parks, theaters, and a wider variety of dining options, making them great for travelers who want endless activities. On the other hand, smaller ships can offer a more intimate and relaxed experience, often with access to unique ports that larger vessels can’t reach. Your comfort level with crowds and the type of atmosphere you prefer will go a long way in helping you decide which ship size is right for your journey. provide.

How do I pick the perfect cruise ship for me?

Finding the perfect cruise begins with understanding your preferences. Start by determining your ideal destinations, trip duration, and budget. Then, explore the amenities and activities offered by various cruise lines, such as dining experiences, onboard entertainment, and recreational options. To make an informed choice, read reviews, seek advice from seasoned cruisers, and consult your travel agent. These steps will ensure you select a cruise that perfectly matches your interests and lifestyle.

How far in advance should I book my cruise?

Best time to book your cruise? It depends on a few things like the cruise line, where you're going, and the time of year! We usually recommend booking 6-12 months in advance, especially if you have specific preferences or are traveling during peak season. This allows you to secure the best cabins, take advantage of early booking discounts, and plan your trip with confidence. Plus, it gives you time to make payments if you're using our payment plan. Most cruises require a deposit per person, with the remaining balance payable over time, up to 70 days before departure.

Ask us about our payment plans!

If you're flexible, you might find great deals closer to your travel date, but these typically require full payment, due to the proximity of departure.

What documents are required to book a cruise?

Embarking on a cruise soon? Cruise lines require essential documentation. Ensure all passengers have valid passports, as many cruises travel internationally. Depending on your destination, visas or other travel documents may be necessary. During booking, cruise lines may request emergency contact information and travel insurance details. We recommend reviewing your cruise's requirements in advance.

It's advisable to apply for passports well in advance, as processing can take up to three months. While card passports are convenient, they are not valid for some international islands if you miss your ship. This does happen, and ships will not wait or turn around.
Card passports CANNOT be used for a flight home. For this reason, we recommend standard passport booklets for emergencies. As a matter of principle, we always recommend sailing with a passport. With that in mind, some itineraries allow cruises without a passport.

Can I pick out which State Room I want?

Cruise ships offer a wide array of cabin choices to match various requirements and price points. Typical categories encompass inside cabins, ocean-view rooms, balcony rooms, and suites. Inside rooms are usually the most economical, located internally without windows. Ocean-view cabins have a window or porthole, letting in natural light. Balcony cabins boast private balconies, perfect for enjoying the views and fresh air. Suites are larger, more opulent, and may include added perks such as priority check-in, butler service, and access to exclusive areas.

We offer a variety of accommodations to suit every budget and preference. From cozy interior rooms to spacious suites with balconies, we'll help you find the perfect space for relaxation and creating unforgettable memories.

Is there a big differences between inside staterooms, ocean view and balconies.

Choosing between an inside stateroom, ocean view, and one with a balcony really depends on what you want and your budget. Inside staterooms are usually cheaper and are great if you're planning to spend most of your time exploring the ship and doing activities. But, if you like natural light, fresh air, and having your own little outdoor space, a balcony stateroom can make your cruise even better. A balcony lets you chill out and enjoy the views from the comfort of your own stateroom.

Is there Parking Available?

There is parking available at the ports for a daily fee. We recommend Rightway Parking due to their low prices and extremely secure lots. All lots are vetted for safety, lighting, and secure access, with many offering 24/7 monitoring. They are located within minutes of most ports, except for Galveston and Hawaii. Hotels also often offer parking for a daily rate, so be sure to ask your travel advisor for recommendations.

Do you have a payment plan?

After your deposit is made and your cruise is scheduled 6-9 months in advance, we can provide assistance. To proceed, we will have to look into which cruise line you've selected.

Royal Caribbean provides payment plans for Royal Caribbean, Celebrity Cruises, and Silversea. Their Flex Pay option is a no-interest plan, allowing up to 10 payments, depending on your final payment date, typically 75 days before departure. We will also investigate if other cruise companies offer similar payment options.

Alternatively, you can make payments directly to your cruise line via their website, app, or through us until the balance is settled. Your account must be paid in full at least 75 days before your departure date; otherwise, your cruise may be subject to cancellation. Please note that payment timelines can vary, with longer cruises potentially having shorter payment windows.

Deposit and Payment Information

How much is the Deposit to book a cruise?

How much is the Deposit to book a cruise?

The deposit amount is determined by the cruise company, the length of the voyage, the number of guests in the stateroom, and the stateroom category. Deposits amounts may vary by promotions.

Below are some examples; please note that these can fluctuate, vary by promotion, and differ among cruise operators. (For example, Royal Caribbean and Carnival differ significantly when it comes to deposits and gratuities.)

Standard Deposits are:
(Calculated on a per-night basis of your cruise.)

  • $100 per passenger for 1 to 5 night curises.
  • $200 per passenger for 6 to 9 night curises.

When is the Deposit Due?

When is the Deposit Due?

Deposits are required when the booking is confirmed, after the cruise itinerary is finalized. Please ask at time of booking, if your Deposits is refundable or not.

Can I make payments?

Making Payments:

Following the finalization of the reservation and receipt of the deposit, we can discuss available payment options. This is contingent upon the cruise date being sufficiently in advance and the availability of suitable options through the cruise line. Otherwise, full payment is required by the Final Payment Date, which is detailed on the provided statement. For those interested in a payment plan, it is advisable to book your cruise 6-9 months in advance. Furthermore, early booking offers greater selection for staterooms, dining times, and available excursions.

When is Final Payment Due?

Final Payment due dates:

The final payment dates depend on the cruise company and will be detailed on your invoice. Here's why this is important:

*Cruise Line Variations:* Payment due dates differ. Every cruise line has its own payment timeline.

*Review Your Invoice:* It's essential to examine the invoice to avoid late fees or possible cancellations.

Below is an Example for Royal Caribbean's  due dates:

Final payment of the balance must be received by Royal Caribean's Offices at least:

  • 75 days prior to sailing date. for 1 to 4 night cruise vacations,
  • 90 days prior to sailing date for 5 to 14 night cruise vacations,
  • 120 days prior for 15 night or longer cruise vacations.

The payment schedule for groups is different from that of individuals. You will usually have access to your cruise documents/ travel tags, 30 days prior to your sailing date as long as your reservation is finalized.

The above information also applies to all holiday sailings, defined as sailings that occur on or between Christmas and/or New Year's day.

Gratuities and Tips:

What are Gratuities and when do I pay them?

Gratuities, also known as service charges, are typically excluded from the initial cruise fare. Most cruise lines automatically add gratuities to the onboard account as a token of appreciation for the crew. The amount varies by cruise line and is usually charged per person, per day. These automatic gratuities are distributed among crew members, including those who work diligently behind the scenes in culinary operations, as well as those you interact with directly. Gratuities can be paid either before or after boarding; otherwise, payment will be required before disembarkation. Passengers may opt out if they deem the service was unsatisfactory; however, it is recommended that they communicate the reasons for their decision so that the issue may be addressed.

Typical cruise ship crew sizes range from 500 to 2,000 members, contingent upon the vessel's capacity. Larger ships, capable of accommodating up to 6,000 passengers, necessitate a greater number of crew members to ensure effective service. The standard crew-to-passenger ratio typically falls within the range of 1:2 or 1:3, a measure taken to maintain a high standard of service.

Consequently, a daily gratuity ranging from $18 to $21 per person may prove insufficient, particularly when considering the limited respite between shifts and the six-month contracts these crew members undertake, often resulting in prolonged separations from their families. Furthermore, crew members not only provide service aboard the vessel but also disembark early to offer services at the cruise line's privite island destinations, such as Royal Caribbean's CocoCay, before returning to the ship to continue their service.

Should I still tip?

It is customary to offer gratuities to crew members providing direct services during your cruise. This usually includes cabin stewards, housekeeping staff, dining room waiters, and assistant waiters. If you receive exceptional service from other onboard staff, such as bartenders, spa therapists, or tour guides during shore excursions, consider a gratuity. Some cruise lines provide envelopes for direct tips. The amount is up to you.

Why does the Cruise Line need my Credit Card on file?

Cruise lines mandate that a credit card be on file to establishment an onboard expense account. This can be accomplished during the check-in process via the cruise website or mobile application, or upon boarding at Guest Services. The onboard expense account serves as the cashless system for all onboard transactions and services.

Don't feel comfortible with them having your credit card information? There is another Option.

OTHER OPTION: Many cruise lines offer cash accounts. Deposit cash, like $100, at Guest Services, and it will be added to your cruise/room card. You can add more cash when the balance is low. IMPORTANT: Cash can only be used for tips or in the casino; no other purchases can be made with cash on the ship.

As an example, if you haven't bought a drink package and want wine with your meal, just show your cruise card. The waiter will provide a receipt for your signature, and the cost will be linked to your card. The payment will then come from your credit card or cash account, depending on how you've set things up. If your balance is insufficient or your card is rejected, you'll be notified and need to make payment right away at Guest Services before leaving the ship.

Stateroom Help:

What items should I buy to help organize my stateroom?

Hairdryer and curling/flat iron allowed?

Every stateroom has a hairdryer, but if you can't find it, ask your room steward. Be aware that the provided dryers are often lower powered and may not be as strong as yours. They also often have only one speed and heat setting. If you want more options or have thick hair, it's a good idea to bring your own.

The TSA no longer permits cordless curling irons, hair straighteners, and similar items in checked bags, as they can catch fire due to the flammable gas cartridges and lithium batteries.

How many electrical outlets in the staterooms?

It depends on the ship. Newer ships typically have at least two, if not three or four, 110v outlets and a few USB charging ports in the stateroom, usually on the desk/vanity and each side of the bed. Older ships may only have one or two 110v and one or two 220v outlets, with no USB ports. If so, you may need a power strip. You can ask your room steward, or purchase a non-surge one to take with you for future travel. We  did suggest a non-surge power strip with USB ports, but I do believe not all cruise lines allow them.

Food and Dress Codes:

What Drinks are free onboard?

Standard coffee is complimentary on most cruise ships and can usually be found in main dining rooms, buffets, cafes, and through room service. Free options include regular or decaf, and you can sometimes add milk (whole, skim, almond, and soy). Other drinks like espresso and cappuccino come with an additional charge. Some ships also feature Starbucks onboard, but these are not complimentary.

As of 2025, the Royal Caribbean coffee card costs approximately $35 if purchased pre-cruise through the Cruise Planner. If purchased onboard, it will be roughly $40.58, including gratuities.

The card includes 15 punches, and each specialty drink requires either one or two punches, depending on the size and ingredients. Any unused punches can be carried over to a subsequent cruise and are shareable with a friend.

  • 1 punch = Tall (small) coffees, single espresso shots, chai lattes.
  • 2 punches = Large coffees, drinks with two espresso shots, blended or frozen drinks (like Frappuccino).

Hot water is usually available in dining rooms and buffet areas, along with an assortment of tea bags, including black tea, green tea, herbal teas, and hot chocolate. Fruit-infused waters are typically offered, providing a refreshing, sugar- and calorie-free option. At least two flavors are usually available, and they may change daily. Lemonade is also a common complimentary beverage in buffet areas. Unsweetened iced tea, fruit juices, and milk are also available. Mix the Lemonade and tea, and you have an Arnold Palmer!

Can I bring drinks & snacks on a cruise?

Please be advised that different cruise companies have various regulations. We recommend reviewing your specific cruise line's guidelines, paying close attention to corkage fees. Please note that corkscrews are strictly prohibited onboard. Also, be aware that some cruise lines do not allow other bottled drinks. Links to various cruise line rules are provided below.

Although cruise ships provide a variety of onboard drinks, passengers are permitted to bring certain beverages on embarkation day.

Guests who have attained the legal drinking age are permitted to bring one sealed 750 ml bottle of wine or champagne. Generally, if you intend to consume wine in the main dining room or a specialty restaurant, a corkage fee should be anticipated. Therefore, we recommend wine bottles with screw-top closures, unless the fee is not a concern to you. Boxed wine and other such containers are not permitted.

Guests may bring non-alcoholic beverages as carry-ons on embarkation day. Non-alcoholic beverages may not exceed up to 12 standard (17 oz.) cans, per stateroom. Milk and distilled water for infant, medical purposes (such as for a C-pac) or for dietary use are usually permitted.

Please note: Guests who purchase alcoholic drinks onboard, in a port-of-call, or bring more than the permitted wine or champagne amount on the first day, will have their items stored securely and returned on the last day. Any confiscated bottles, alcoholic beverages (including beer, seltzer, or hard liquor) on embarkation day will not be returned.

Can I wear shorts and flip-flops or sandals to dinner?

Indeed, certain areas onboard have evening dress regulations. Most cruise companies implement them in dining venues, including the main and specialty restaurants. For instance, shorts are usually prohibited in those places during dinner. Nevertheless, you can dine casually at the buffet, and the pool grill often offers burgers and pizza in the evenings.

Dress codes differ among cruise lines, but usually range from casual to formal. Casual might mean resort wear, while formal nights could entail suits, cocktail dresses, or tuxedos. Some cruises also organize themed evenings where you can dress according to a specific theme. Make sure to check the cruise line's guidelines before your voyage!

How do we get wrinkles out of clothes?

Kindly inquire with your suite's housekeeping about dry cleaning options onboard. Be prepared for a possible charge.

A helpful suggestion: Many cruise vessels do not permit the use of small irons or steamers. However, Downy Wrinkle Releaser is an effective solution. Simply apply it to your garments upon unpacking to eliminate minor creases. For more persistent wrinkles, consider utilizing a curling iron, flat iron, or hang your garments in the bathroom while showering to benefit from the generated steam. Some vessels may provide an iron in the laundry facility; however, this is generally limited to extended voyages. Furthermore, I have found that rolling garments during packing not only maximizes suitcase space but also minimizes wrinkling.

How formal are "Dress to Impress" or "Dress Your Best," nights?

Dress code guidelines are subjective; however, formal evenings are often identified as "Dress to Impress" or "Dress Your Best." Passengers generally aim for a polished appearance. Luxury and upscale cruise lines often feature tuxedos and dark suits for men, while women frequently wear gowns or elegant dresses.

Conversely, contemporary cruise lines offer a wider range of attire options. Typical standards include men wearing a sport coat or a well-tailored collared shirt with dress pants, and women may wear a dress or a stylish pantsuit. Attire ranges from formal wear, such as tuxedos and gowns, to more casual options, such as sport shirts with khakis and capris with a blouse.

The dress code primarily applies to the main dining room and specialty restaurants. Most cruise lines offer alternative casual dining options, and it is recommended to review the daily onboard program.

Before Embarking Cruise

Do I need Luggage Tags?

Please proceed to the final pages of your Guest Documents to print the required number of luggage tags.

The provided guest document (eDocs - electronic document) contains a luggage tag specific to your cruise ship, sailing date, stateroom, and deck number. The tag also includes usage instructions. Each piece of luggage should have a tag. We recommend attaching one to your carry-on luggage in the event of misplacement. As they are printed on paper, they may detach during loading; therefore, we recommend using tag holders. They are available on Amazon:
Cruise Luggage Tag Holders. The majority can be shipped overnight. Please ensure that you order the correct ones for your cruise line.

Another Option: If you do not have the means to print them, you may wait until check-in at the embarkation guest services at terminal, and someone there will tag your bags. However, we recommend completing this process in advance to save time during check-in and to ensure the correct stateroom number is on your bags. Please proceed to the final pages of your Guest Docments to print the required number of luggage tags you will need. The guest document (eDocs - electronic document) provided includes a luggage tag specific to your cruise ship, sailing date, stateroom, and deck number. When can I see the Onboard Entertainment?

The schedule is usually released around the beginning of the month before your cruise or closer to your departure date.

Regarding onboard entertainment, have you made reservations for any shows? While not required, booking in advance allows you to select your preferred show times and ensures access to popular events. This also makes planning evenings, coordinating meals, and avoiding long lines easier. Keep in mind that these reservations depend on the specific ship, as some don't offer them.

Do I need to print out the Cruise Guest Documents?

Your Cruise Guest documents and luggage tags will be accessible approximately 20-50 days prior to your scheduled departure date. It is not necessary to print the entire document unless you require it for your records. These documents are not required upon boarding.

What time should I arrive at terminal?

About 3 to 4 hours before scheduled.

It is advisable to be present approximately three to four hours before your scheduled departure. This provides ample time for check-in, security, and managing any last-minute needs without feeling rushed. If you're driving, arriving on the day of departure is usually fine, depending on your commute. However, longer travel times might require an earlier arrival. For air travel, it's strongly recommended to arrive at least a day in advance to avoid potential disruptions like flight delays or cancellations, allowing time for alternative arrangements if needed.

Boarding typically commences between 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m., contingent upon the vessel's schedule and the debarkation process of the preceding cruise. The majority of cruise lines mandate that all passengers be on board no less than two hours prior to the scheduled departure, which usually occurs in the late afternoon or evening.

Embarkment Day, what do I need to have with me?

Please retain all travel documentation on your person in your carry-on luggage or bag at the terminal, as they are required for check-in procedures. Furthermore, your SetSail Pass, is accessible through the Cruise Phone App, may be utilized for boarding at the terminal.

This includes, but is not limited to, your SetSail Pass, Passports,
birth certificates (if applicable), parking permits, hotel confirmations, airport documentation, medications, motion sickness remedies, sunscreen, and swimwear. (Enjoy the pools while waiting on staterooms to br ready)
